Attitude of Gratitute

I've posted a new entry at my blog about having an attitude of gratitude. It is very important for your emotional and spiritual well-being to be thankful for the the things in your life. You can read my post here: http://tinyurl.com/om6pxn

I live again!

Evidently, according to LiveJournal, it's been 111 weeks since I've logged in. I guess I should maybe start using my journal again? I'm honestly surprised that it wasn't deleted.

I've been spending my time living my life in the real space and trying new things. More recently, I've been experimenting with vegetarianism. The motives are to test the claims of improved health and also to see if this style of living will be sustainable. Other items of interest to me, and likely to others as well, will also be posted there. You can read it at http://charlesscheidecker.blogspot.com.

Ciao,
Charles

I must be doing something right... someone asked me today if I had lost some weight. I hadn't noticed, and I can't weight myself at home because I have a digital scale with a dead battery.

Here we are yet again! I'm sticking to The Total Money Makeover plan and have stopped using my credit cards. I haven't gotten to the point of chopping them into tiny bits yet but I'm looking forward to that!

So far, progress is slow but existent. I've managed to put $200 into my emergency fund so far. Just $800 more to go and I can start knocking out my debts. I sometimes find myself wishing that I received hourly pay instead of a salary so I could get some overtime! Also, being on call every other week limits my options for picking up side jobs. Anyone have suggestions for side jobs that would be compatible with being on call?

I'm trying to sell some stuff to raise money, too. I've got several speakers up for sale, so if you know anyone who needs or wants some speakers send them to me - I'm willing to ship them for a reasonable handling fee in addition to actual insured shipping charges.

I've also got a couple of lamp tables from the 60's that I'm also selling. They're solid wood and in reasonably good condition. One of them needs refinished - there was an incident where nail polish remover was spilled on the table top and it took the sealer and stain right off. If anyone's looking for a couple of handsome lamp tables, let me know.

Aside from financial matters, there are physical matters. I've been exercising quite a bit this week and feeling some good energy benfits already. I've got an eliptical at home. You probably already knew about that. With the exception of yesterday where I took a day off, I've been doing consistently 3.5 miles to 4 miles per day while watching episodes of Firefly, which I borrowed from nelle816. Thanks Lea, it's been very enjoyable so far! I'm through the first disc finally.
</div>

Forget New Year's Resolutions...

These are my lifetime resolutions:

1) Become financially fit. I've got a budget in place thanks to the Total Money Makeover (http://www.daveramsey.com). I will become DEBT FREE.

2) Be mentally fit. I honestly need to spend more time reading and studying just for my own personal enjoyment.

3) Be physically fit. I have a big spare tire that needs to be rolled off into permanent storage.

I feel like I should be listening to Europe: Final Countdown or something. My last Tuesday at Wartburg! Soon I'll be counting down the hours.

1.24 miles, 144 calories

AND some situps! 20, to be precise. Not bad, considering I haven't done any of those since.. I can't remember when. Whew!

Whew.. I just finished some exercise for tonight.

6:55, 1 mile, 120 calories

Unfortunately, I splurged big time and ate way too much ice cream. I had a major craving. I'll have to really work to undo that damage.

Then again, my calorie intake was probably a bit low anyway.. I've been eating very light meals/snacks this week.

Another goal exceeded

Here are tonight's eliptical statistics. I weighed myself last night and I was down to 242, although some of that was probably water weight. I'm glad I'm exercising again. I can definitely feel the boost in my energy levels.

In just over 10 minutes: 1.32 miles, 157 calories

Exercise

Today's exercise goal of 1 mile has been... exceeded. My target weight is 175 pounds, expected to be reached no later than March of 2008. This should be easily doable if I keep meal portions down and keep on with a good exercise program. I'm at about 245 pounds right now. 70 pounds off by March 2008 should be easy to do, I think.

Here are today's exercise statistics:
15 minutes, 1.91 miles, 228 calories

I may do some more later, but for now it's time to make something to eat.

Addendum: I think I'm going to start doing progress photographs. That could be fun.

Second note: I did additional exercise tonight.

10 minutes, 1.3 miles, 154 calories

Total exercise burn: 382 calories

We're rocking now!

Get out of my house, bat.

Ok.. got the second bat out of my house. I can't believe this is the second bat in here, two nights in a row. It came out the same time as last night. About 11:30pm. Alton (the cute little cat) was very helpful; he somehow managed to catch the bat and was running around with it in his mouth. Crazy cat. He's a fantastic hunter.

That's not the real reason I'm posting this though; I just wanted to put in a plug for my new "Potentially Useful" blog. I've started to add content to it, so you'll have something to read. I'm going to try to keep it updated with useful tips and whatnot.

Here it is:

"Potentially Useful"

There's another bat in the house tonight. I just removed one from the house last night... I think they're coming in through the heating ductwork, so tomorrow I'm going to install some alumnium screen at the entrypoint on the outside of the house.

But for now..it's time to sleep. I hope the bat doesn't come to get me. :^)

Exercise

Well, last night I didn't manage to get around to exercising AT ALL.

However, tonight I managed to make this goal:

1.29 miles, 154 calories burned, in 10 minutes

Not bad. Did a bunch of other stuff around the house too. My biggest accomplishment was installing a bi-fold door to separate the mess that is the den from the rest of the house. It'll keep the cats out but still permit air flow between the rooms.
